Dell Inspiron 710m. How to fix problem with SDHC cards (4Gb, 8GB etc) in Windows XP Professional (Home) SP3
My new camera and new card Sandisk Extreme III (8Gb) had troubles to be read in my old laptop Dell Inspiron 710m.
All recommendations as update drivers or install hotfix from Microsoft web site simple were not effective. For long trips I really don’t need extra card – 8 Gb is more the enough. You need any way charge battery. And just move new picture to your laptop.
Ok. What I found?
Actually on board of my Inspiron 710m is “Texas Instruments PCIxx20 Integrated FlashMedia Controller”. No more driver updates after 2006…
Solution to fix is little bit tricky and undocumented.
1) Go to HP web site here and download Texas Instruments Media Card Reader Driver. File name is sp43509.exe (6.4 MB). Yes, download it from HP for your Dell Inspiron 710m
2) Start exe file and install drivers.
3) Then go to Device manager and update your exist Texas Instruments PCIxx20 Integrated FlashMedia Controller driver. Remove checkbox “only compatible”.
4) Now you can see Texas Instruments PCIxx21 Integrated FlashMedia Controller
5) Install it. Ignore warning.
6) You are done. Your new SDHC card at old Dell Inspiron 710m become readable.
UPDATE. I’m not sure if it was issue, but laptop become unstable with wireless. I have rollback today to previous driver. I’ll see if it was reason…
